Partnering Miya
NRW Management Project using Netbase, Manila, Philippines
Miya commenced an NRW Management and Advisory contract in 2009 to support Maynilad Water Services (MWSI) NRW Strategic Reduction Project. MWSI supplies a population of 7.3 million connected population in the western zone of metropolitan Manila. The project is addressing the challenges of reducing 63% losses, providing continuous supplies to 1 million of the population and improving very low pressures. MWSI have a programme for establishing over 1100 DMAs in the network and are progressing rapidly towards this. That involves the installation of many DMA and zone meters, monitoring points, telemetry and customer smart metering.
Crowder’s role as a Miya partner was to implement the Netbase system interfaced with the GIS, SAP billing and job management system, customer contacts and telemetry systems. This was to fulfil MWSI’s requirements for a world class NRW management system so that the achieved monitoring and reductions in NRW will be sustainable.
The Netbase system successfully went live on MWSI servers in December 2010 following the system integration and user acceptance testing processes. Leading up to ‘go-live’, Crowder first of all mapped and loaded the corporate systems data into the Netbase database, hosted on our servers. Then configured the MWSI network in the database and initialised the analysis and processes in the applications. As with all implementations of Netbase, these processes involved many exchanges of information and feedback, visits to Manila and visits by MWSI and Miya personnel to the UK for workshops. We specified the requirements for the servers and systems on which Netbase was installed. We established and tested with MWSI the interfaces with their corporate systems for the frequent updating of the Netbase database.
Our consultancy handover services included a detailed analysis and report of the status of configuration and DMA operability of the network based on the data in Netbase. The analysis provided a basis for MWSI and Miya to monitor the ongoing improvements, including the performance of DMAs in the network.
Crowder have provided extensive training and technical support to MWSI and Miya staff for using the system in their business as usual operations. This will progress from monitoring the performance of the project to day to day monitoring, reporting and targeting the network in order to achieve the project objectives.
