Crowder Consulting was delighted to take part in **Water Loss Asia 2026** in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 20–22 October, as a **Synergy Event Partner**. Bringing together water industry experts, utilities, technology providers and innovators from across the region, the event provided a valuable opportunity to share knowledge and explore new approaches to tackling non-revenue water (NRW).

As specialists in water loss management, we were pleased to contribute to the event through helping with all aspects of the NRW workshop, as well as chairing and presenting during the main conference programme.

The NRW workshop brought together industry professionals to explore practical approaches to reducing water loss and addressing the challenges facing water utilities. Through sharing experience and expertise, we aimed to encourage discussion around the strategies, technologies and operational practices that can deliver meaningful, lasting improvements.

We also presented during the conference, contributing to the wider conversation on water loss management and the importance of combining technical expertise, effective processes and data driven decision making to support NRW reduction. Tom Crowder and Courtney Carey represented Crowder Consulting within the conference programme, delivering presentations that highlighted practical solutions, industry experience and lessons learned from supporting utilities around the world.

In addition to our involvement in the workshop and conference programme, we were proud to have strong representation within the NRW Deep Dive Workshop and the NextWave Innovation Awards. Alongside supporting delegates on the exhibition stand, Gillian Sowden served as a mentor during the NRW Deep Dive Workshop, sharing her experience with attendees and helping facilitate discussions around practical approaches to reducing non-revenue water. Gillian also had the honour of serving as a Juror for the **NextWave Innovation Awards 2026**, recognising innovative technologies, projects and initiatives that are helping shape the future of the water sector.

Water Loss Asia highlighted the importance of collaboration in addressing one of the water industry's most pressing challenges. With water security, sustainability and operational efficiency high on the agenda, the event provided an excellent platform for exchanging ideas, learning from international experiences and building relationships across the sector.

As a Synergy Event Partner, we are proud to have supported this important event and contributed to the shared ambition of reducing water loss and securing a more sustainable water future. We were very honoured to receive a special award by the organisers for being a key sponsor of the event.

Courtney Carey, a Senior Project Engineer passed on her thoughts about the fantastic event:

"It was great to attend the 10th Water Loss Asia Conference in Kuala Lumpur. I particularly enjoyed the workshop which showcased a range of technologies used to tackle water loss, followed by an interactive session focused on Non-Revenue Water (NRW) calculations. We explored different NRW challenges across different states of Malaysia and worked collaboratively to develop solutions and presented our findings back to the group. The conference was a fantastic opportunity to share knowledge, learn from industry experts and explore how digital solutions and innovative technologies can help utilities tackle water loss effectively."

Alif Aris Zuan, Project Engineer at Crowder Consulting, represented the company on the exhibition stand throughout the event and took part in the NRW Deep Dive Workshop as a delegate. Reflecting on the experience, he said:

"Back in my hometown Kuala Lumpur, it was a great experience to attend the 10th Water Loss Asia Conference 2026 and gaining valuable insights into water loss challenges across Malaysia and other ASEAN countries. The conference allows us to explore how our digital solution, Netbase, could help address these challenges and also provide opportunity to connect with fellow water industry professionals. I also appreciated the organisers’ efforts to showcase Malaysian culture with international delegates/speaker through traditional dances and local cuisine. Overall, it was a valuable experience that broadened my perspective and inspired new possibilities for digital solutions in water loss management."

Gillian Sowden, Director at Crowder Consulting, reflected on her experience at the event:

"One of the highlights of Water Loss Asia 2026 was the opportunity to mentor young and emerging water professionals during the NRW Deep Dive Workshop and to serve as a juror for the NextWave Innovation Awards. It was inspiring to see the enthusiasm, creativity and technical expertise on display throughout the event. Supporting knowledge sharing, encouraging the next generation of industry professionals and recognising innovation that can make a real difference to water utilities are all incredibly important. The event provided an excellent opportunity to collaborate with colleagues from across the water sector, share experiences and learn more about the innovative approaches being developed to address water loss challenges throughout the region."

Tom Crowder, Director at Crowders wrote the following message:

**A Special Water Loss Asia to Remember**

This was the 10th Water Loss Asia event, and I think I’ve attended eight of them! Over the years, I’ve built lasting friendships and made so many great connections, which means the conference holds a very special place in my heart. I love coming to Malaysia and being part of this fantastic event. The dedication of the organisers, who work so hard to make each conference better than the last, is truly appreciated.

This year was particularly special for me, as I was heavily involved in organising the NRW Deep Dive Workshop, designed to be more interactive and engaging for young water professionals.

What I’ll remember most is the 40 university students who attended. They had travelled three hours to be there, and their enthusiasm lit up the room. Moments like that make all the hard work worthwhile. Seeing the next generation of water professionals so engaged and eager to learn reminds you why sharing knowledge and experience is so important.

I also had the unexpected experience of being treated as a VIP at the opening of the conference! It was a new experience for me, and I thoroughly enjoyed sharing a little of the limelight with some of Malaysia’s leading figures.

A huge thank you to Protemp and everyone involved in organising such a brilliant event. I’m already looking forward to the next Water Loss Asia!

**Thank you to the Water Loss Asia organisers, fellow partners and everyone who joined our workshop and conference sessions.** We look forward to continuing these conversations and working collaboratively with the water industry to turn knowledge into action.
