Malaysia International Water Conference (MIWC) 2025
Last week, we, Gillian Sowden, Hakeem Azleen and Tom Crowder, attended the Malaysia International Water Convention (MIWC) at the World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur.
The conference theme was “Harnessing Water Potential: Empowering Opportunities, Technology Application and Innovations.” Held on the 14th to 16th October, the event was well attended by water operators and professionals from across Malaysia and the wider region.
We had a stand in the exhibition area, which drew significant interest in our solutions, perfectly
aligned with the conference’s focus on innovation and technology in the water sector.
Each afternoon featured a series of technical talks on topics such as Non-Revenue Water, Digital Transformation, and Innovation. Our presentation, delivered by Tom Crowder, “Mass Balance: Next Generation Analytics for Water Loss Management,” was very well received.
On Wednesday evening, we attended the Speakers’ Dinner, a lively celebration of Malaysian culture, complete with traditional dances and plenty of audience participation.
The final day of the event featured a dedicated Non-Revenue Water Workshop under the theme “Visualising Water Loss in Tonnes of Carbon to Drive Climate Solutions.” This workshop attracted strong participation from operators across Malaysia and the region. The morning sessions focused on the water balance, during which we presented “Components of the Water Balance and How Their Uncertainty Affects Performance Indicators.” In the afternoon, informative sessions explored the link between water loss and carbon emissions, supported by compelling case studies from water loss reduction projects in Taiwan.
It was fantastic to reconnect with friends and colleagues throughout the week. Malaysia is a truly special place, vibrant, welcoming, and deeply committed to transforming its water industry. With clear support from leadership and a strong appetite for innovation, the future of the Malaysian water sector looks incredibly promising. We’re proud to have been part of this journey over the years and look forward to continuing our contribution to the exciting developments ahead.
