Dynamic Demand Workshop 2026

On Tuesday 3rd February, we were delighted to welcome a wide range of water operators to our Dynamic Demand Workshop at the Hilton Metropole, Birmingham. Representatives from Yorkshire Water, Anglian Water, Thames Water, Severn Trent Water, and Northumbrian Water joined us for a full day of discussion, collaboration, and insight sharing around our Dynamic Demand, smart metering, and mass balance analytical solutions.

The workshop combined technical updates, real-world case studies, and interactive breakout sessions, providing attendees with both strategic insight and tactical takeaways.

Dynamic Demand Development & Smart Meter Projects Update

StephenWe opened the day with an overview of Dynamic Demand enhancements and smart meter projects using our NetAlytics solutions. This showcased our latest features, ongoing initiatives and new implementations from 2025, alongside a forward look at further enhancements planned for 2026. This session highlighted how Dynamic Demand capabilities continue to evolve to support more granular, data-driven decision-making through tactical insights, forecasting, and leakage management.

Thames Water Case Study: Smart Meter Journey

Thames Water shared their smart meter journey, focusing on how NetAlytics Dynamic Demand Analysis has been embedded into their processes. The session demonstrated the tangible benefits already being realised, including improved understanding of consumption behaviour and enhanced analytical insight to support tactical and strategic objectives.

Breakout Group 1: Smart Meter Data

Our first breakout session provided a focused forum to discuss attendees’ current use of smart meter data, as well as their requirements for related consumption data streams. The discussion highlighted both common challenges and emerging opportunities, reinforcing the importance of flexible analytics that can adapt to differing organisational needs.

Forecasting Update

We then shared an update on forecasting, outlining progress in the use of AI to predict daily and night-time consumption at delivery points. This work continues to strengthen predictive capabilities, supporting more proactive network management and planning.

Mass Balance Updates and Case Study

The workshop included a session dedicated to Area Mass Balance – showcasing the latest enhancements and new features plus a Mass Balance Case Study, delivered in collaboration with Thames Water, demonstrating the use of Mass Balance for DMA grading and the development of smarter, more targeted business processes for DMA prioritisation. These sessions illustrated how mass balance analytics can be embedded into day-to-day operational decision-making to achieve the most benefit.

Breakout Group 2: Area Mass Balance

The second breakout group encouraged open discussion around attendees’ current use of Area Mass Balance, alongside future needs and priorities. Feedback from this session will help inform ongoing development and ensure tools remain aligned with industry requirements.

Water Balance Upgrade

The final session introduced a significant upgrade to the Netbase Water Balance, covering both Top-Down and Bottom-Up approaches (DMAs and Zones), using British and IWA methodologies. Attendees were shown new Quick Access features, including compact, user-friendly Area Summaries of Water Balances, Consumptions, DI Meters, Alarms, and more -all accessible directly from Zones or DMAs within the main Network Information element of Netbase.
