Last week, Francisco and Magui had the pleasure of representing us at ENEG 2025, Portugal’s largest water sector event, held at the Europarque in Santa Maria da Feira. This flagship summit brought together leading organisations, experts and professionals from across Portugal’s water sector to discuss innovation, governance and the future of water management.
Presenting our upstream network project
As part of the programme on Water and Energy Efficiency, our colleagues presented NetConn, an upstream strategic monitoring and loss-reduction project being developed for Thames Water. They introduced the platform’s approach to classifying upstream monitoring areas (TMAs) using a confidence-scoring system designed to support operational prioritisation and improve decision-making.
They also shared one of the project’s case studies, the Pewley zone, where persistent imbalances were investigated through meter verification, boundary valve checks and a temporary subdivision using an ultrasonic meter. This systematic process helped pinpoint the root cause within a specific sub-TMA, enabling corrective action that significantly improved night-line performance, increased the area’s confidence score and ultimately reduce more than 1 Ml/d in leakage.
The session demonstrated how structured upstream analysis and reliable data can play a central role in reducing losses and enhancing the efficiency of trunk mains networks.
Strengthening connections and exploring innovation
In addition to presenting, our team took full advantage of the event’s vibrant exhibition hall. ENEG’s exhibition space featured impressive stands from utilities, manufacturers, service providers and technology companies, creating a dynamic environment for the exchange of ideas and solutions.
This setting provided an ideal opportunity for networking, allowing our colleagues to reconnect with familiar faces, meet new partners and engage in valuable discussions about current trends and future directions in the sector. These interactions continue to be an essential part of our growth, helping us identify emerging opportunities and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders.
A highlight of the event: the Pipe Contest
ENEG 2025 also featured one of its most popular and entertaining activities: the Pipe Contest, the National Championship of Service Connection Assembly Under Pressure. This competition brings together teams from utilities across the country to assemble a pressurised service connection in the shortest possible time.
Our colleagues were among the many attendees cheering from the sidelines as teams showcased their speed, coordination and technical skill. The energetic atmosphere of the Pipe Contest adds a unique and engaging dimension to the event, celebrating the operational expertise that underpins the water sector and highlighting the teamwork and precision required in field operations.
Looking ahead
Participating in ENEG 2025 proved to be highly rewarding for our team and for the company. Beyond presenting a key project, we returned with new insights, strengthened partnerships and a renewed sense of motivation. Events like ENEG are essential for fostering collaboration and innovation, and we are proud to contribute to the ongoing conversation about the future of water management in Portugal.
We look forward to continuing our work alongside partners, clients and peers, promoting sustainable and efficient solutions for the water sector.
